Carleton Ravens gear up to represent Canada at FISU World Cup 3X3 Basketball in China

 U SPORTS and the Carleton Ravens are proud to announce the women’s basketball roster that will represent Canada at the 2024 FISU University World Cup 3X3 Basketball Tournament to be held in Xiamen, China November 22-24, 2024. The Ravens secured their qualification for the World Cup by winning the FISU America’s tournament held in Argentina this spring. 

This is the first time the Carleton Ravens will don Canada’s at the World Cup. The team had never participated in a 3X3 tournament before winning the FISU America’s tournament. 

“We are extremely excited for this opportunity to travel to China and represent Canada at the tournament,” said Ravens guard Jacqueline Urban. “We look forward to competing against a multitude of teams from all across the world. We are eager to compete and hopefully pick up where we left off in Argentina.”

Veteran Ravens set to play 

The Ravens are returning three members of the squad that won the regional in May. 

All four members of the roster are two-time U SPORTS champions (2023, 2024) including 2023 Kathy Shields Award winner Jacqueline Urban. Urban also represented Ontario, winning bronze at the 2022 Canada Games.

2024 U SPORTS Final 8 All-Star Kyana-Jade Poulin and 2022 OUA East All-Rookie Teresa Donato also return to the roster. The Ravens round out their four-player rotation with 6’2” forward Kinly Rice. A two-time OUA and U SPORTS champion, Rice played three seasons with Carleton from 2021-2024.

Ash-Smith to lead Ravens

Ravens assistant coach Mackenzie Ash-Smith will take on the role of head coach at the tournament. From Montreal, Quebec, Ash-Smith has been a member of the Carleton Ravens women's basketball coaching staff since 2022-23 assisting the team to back-to-back national championships. Smith is also the head coach of the Ottawa Capitals Juel Prep team.

Four-time winners of the Critelli Cup as Ontario University Athletics conference champions, the Ravens have won four of the last 7 OUA titles. Over the past three seasons the Ravens are 50-8 in conference play with a 12-1 playoff record.
