Hawks Top Mounties 4-1 in Opener

(St. John's, NL) – The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the Mount Allison Mounties 4-1 in their season opener, on a wet Saturday afternoon, from King George V Soccer Field in St. John's.

The Hawks got off to a great start, when 5th year striker Tyler Forsey (St. Philips, NL) found the back of the net in the 2nd minute of the game.  Memorial would add to that lead in the 12th minute, when transfer Ryan Farrell (Kildare, Ireland) scored his first goal as a Sea-Hawk. The Sea-Hawks kept the pressure on the Mounties, scoring once again in the 16th minute, on a goal by Tyler Kirby (St. John's, NL).  Memorial would go into the half with a 3-0 lead, outshooting the Mounties 13-2.

Mount Allison used the halftime break to regroup and looked like a much-improved team in the second half.  They would cut the lead to 3-1 in the 57th minute on a goal from Ryogo Kanda (Osaka, Japan).  The Sea-Hawks were able to get back their 3-goal lead on a beautiful strike off the foot of Tyler Kirby (64') from distance.

Tyler Kirby was the Subway Player of the Game, registering two goals on five shot attempts.

The Mounties will look to rebound tomorrow, as the teams wrap up the weekend series at 2:15pm from King George V Soccer Field.  The game is also available on AUStv.ca.
