Varsity Blues crush Ridgebacks hopes of earning program’s first victory

OSHAWA, Ont. – A huge fourth quarter by the Toronto Varsity Blues left the Ontario Tech University men's basketball team still looking for the program's victory.
 
Tied 67-67 through three quarters, the Varsity Blues took over in the fourth as the outscored the Ridgebacks 30-15 en route to a 97-82 victory.
 
"This was one of our most impressive efforts we have had to date," said head coach Greg Francis. "This is a big learning experience for us. Learning to close out games will be our next challenge."
 
Ontario Tech will have one more opportunity to earn their first win this semester on Friday night when they travel to Kingston to face the Queen's Gaels. The Ridgebacks hosted Queen's for their inaugural home game on November 3, falling 83-61.
  • For the first time, all five Ontario Tech starters were in double digits, led by AJ Cummings (Ajax, Ont.) dropping 20. Graddy Kanku (Ottawa, Ont.), Rahsean Neil-Simpson (Mississauga, Ont.), D'On Duncan (Calgary, Alta.) and Ammar Hassan (London, Ont.) finished with 17, 15, 15 and 10 respectively.
• Evan Shadkami scored eight of his game-high 32 points in the fourth quarter to lift Toronto to victory.
  Ammar Hassan had a game-high seven boards for the Ridgebacks, while Graddy Kanku had a game-high seven assists.
• Chris Barrett and Evan Shadkami each had a game-high three steals.
D'on Duncan had three blocks for Ontario Tech, one of only three players to record a block on the night.
