Reds Hold Off Capers

(SYDNEY, NS) The Cape Breton Capers couldn't overcome an 18-point half-time deficit, dropping an 89-84 decision to the visiting UNB Reds on Friday evening.

The Reds used a dominant third quarter and outscored the home team 24-7 in the period.

They hit open shots and made few mistakes to take a 48-30 lead into the half.

The Capers battled back in the third and fourth quarters to cut the lead to five with just over a minute to go.

Cape Breton outscored the Reds 54-41 in the second half, but weren't able to complete the comeback.

Monique Calliste (Toronto, ON) led CBU with 29 points, while MacKenzee Ryan (Glace Bay, NS) had 22 pts.

The Reds had four players score in double-digits, led by Subway Player of the Game Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) with 21 points and five assists.

Bailey Black (Miramichi, NB) tied for the team lead with 21 points.

The Capers are now 0-and-5, while the Reds improve to 2-and-3.

The teams face each other in a re-match, Saturday at 2:00pm.
