Axewomen improve to 2-0 with home win against Sea-Hawks

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The defending AUS champion Axewomen posted a six-point weekend with a win on the road at STFX and a home victory today against the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks.

After 79 minutes of play, third-year mid-fielder Grace Longley (Bedford, N.S.) finally broke the 0-0 tie with a goal to give the Axewomen a 1-0 win over the Sea-Hawks.

Longley's goal was her second of the weekend after scoring Acadia's second goal in a 5-2 win over STFX on Friday.

"It feels pretty awesome. STFX and MUN are both pretty good teams. We were definitely nervous about the weekend. We know they would come out strong. We got the 6 points we needed," said Longley after the match against Memorial.

Longley topped all players on the pitch with seven shots and two on goal. Zoe Rowe lead the Sea-Hawks with six shots – three on goal.

Claire Langille was named Memorial's Player of the Game.

The Axewomen outshot the Sea-Hawks 16-8, yet both keepers were tested with six saves by Memorial's Sydney Walsh (St. John's, Nfld.) and five by Axewoman Milena Ramirez (Wolfville, N.S.)

Acadia had four corner kick opportunities compared to Memorial's 2.

The 2-0 Axewomen have only one game, next Saturday at Moncton, while the 1-1 Sea-Hawks host Cape Breton for two games next weekend on The Rock.
