NO. 6 BLUES EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team notched their fourth-straight win in defeating the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-1 Saturday night (Oct. 17) at Varsity Arena.

The Blues jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to some great work on special teams. Third-year defenceman Autumn Garnham opened the scoring for U of T with a booming shot from the point just as a UOIT player was exiting the penalty box.

Five minutes later, veteran forward Sonja Weidenfelder extended her goal-scoring streak to three straight games with a power play marker set up by Rebecca Bourgeois and Christine Chao.

The final Varsity Blues goal came late in the second period when a beautiful cross-crease feed from veteran Jacqueline Sheffel. Scheffel found the stick of second-year forward Kassandra Roache, who deposited the puck in the net.

UOIT would get one back in the third courtesy Mikaeli Cavell but Varsity Blues goaltender Valencia Yordanov shut the door the rest of the way. Yordanov finished the night with 19 saves, pushing her save percentage to .956, ranking her fourth in the OUA.

The Varsity Blues will now begin a three-game road trip starting in Windsor, Ont. Saturday, October 24 against the Lancers. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
