The Dalhousie Tigers women's hockey team beat cross-town rivals, Saint Mary's Huskies 3-2 in Wednesday night AUS action.

Dalhousie's Abby Wamboldt (Hammonds Plains, NS) got the Tigers on the board first on a breakaway that was assisted by Brooklyn Paisley (Shawnigan Lake, BC) and Emma Bishop (Bedford, NS). The Huskies aggressive forecheck paid off later in the period when Jillian Dugan (Halifax, NS) evened things up with a wrist shot over the shoulder of Dalhousie goaltender Grace Beer (Oakville, ON). It didn't take long for Dal to regain the lead, as Paisley managed to score off a rebound on the very next play.

The Tigers continued to apply the pressure on the Huskies goal in the second period, outshooting SMU 7-4 before SMU was finally able to convert with two minutes to go in the period. The Huskies leading scorer Shae Demale added another goal to her stat sheet, finding a way past Beer to tie the game. Once again, the Tigers came back, going ahead with only 5 seconds to go. Fourth year forward Kennedy Whelan (Alliston, ON) put the Tigers up 3-2 with her first goal of the season.

Looking for the tying goal, Saint Mary's increased the pressure in the third period, peppering Beer with 12 shots to Dalhousie's 6. The rookie goaltender stood tall and stopped all of them to give hold on to the lead and win the game for the Tigers.

Brooklyn Paisley, earned the Subway player of the game honours for her goal and assist in Dalhousie's win.

Dalhousie moves into a tie for second place with a 4-2-1 record. This is the second loss in a row for Saint Mary's, who sit in fifth in the AUS with a 3-3 record.

The Tigers and Huskies will now both begin preparing for their next opponent as Dalhousie takes on Mount Allison in Sackville, while Saint Mary's travels to Charlottetown to face UPEI this Friday at 7:00 p.m.
