(ST. JOHN'S, NL) After a disappointing Saturday outing, the UNB Reds rebounded on Sunday.

Bailey Black (Miramichi, NB) scored a career and game-high 23 points to lead the Reds in their 80-75 win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks.

Black was named Subway Player of the Game.

After dropping Saturday's season opener to the Sea-Hawks, the Reds began the re-match by building a nine-point first quarter lead.

Black scored 13 of her 23 points in the first half, as UNB took a 41-29 lead into the break.

The Sea-Hawks worked hard to make up some ground in the third quarter, but the Reds remained strong, putting another 22 points on the scoreboard.

UNB led 63-47 after three quarters.

Memorial made it close down the stretch, outscoring UNB 28-17 in the final quarter, but the Reds did enough to earn the win.

Grace Simpson (Fredericton, NB) and Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) each had 15 points for the Reds, while Mikitshi Basambombo (Cotê Saint-Luc, QC) grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.

While not as damaging as on Saturday, the Reds still had issues with 18 turnovers.

Hailie Nickerson (Grimsby, ON) scored 21 to lead Memorial.

With the win, the Reds are now 1-and-1 and get ready to host the Acadia Axewomen in their home-opener, on Friday, at 6:00pm, at the Richard J. Currie Center.

The Sea-Hawks, also 1-and-1, go on the road to face the Cape Breton Capers, in Sydney.
