MONTREAL -- Freshman
Mehdi Ibn-Brahim of Montreal scored a pair of second-half goals, including the game-winner, as the McGill University men's soccer team defeated the Piranhas from École de technologie supérieure 4-1 in exhibition play on Friday at Percival Molson Stadium.
It took less than three minutes for McGill to swarm the Piranhas zone and it paid off when rookie
Raphael Tepe tallied to put the Redmen ahead 1-0.u
Ismail Diakite tied the score in the 16th minute for ETS, in the midst of an exhibition season with plans of returning to the RSEQ conference, where they last played in the 2004 season.
Just when things were beginning to look dicey for McGill, they put the contest out of reach late in the second half with a three-goal flurry over a seven-minute span. Ibn-Brahim tallied his two markers in the 72nd and 78th minutes, both set up by senior midfielder
Julien Marlatt of San Francisco, Calif. That was followed seconds later by teammate
Mohamed Kleit, an electrical engineering senior from Ourtremont, Que.
Redmen goalkeeper
Bladen Allan played the first half and saved one of two shots faced. He was relieved by freshman
Lambert Drainville at the break. Drainville saved all three shots faced and collected the victory. On the other side, France-born native
Clement Hittier of ETS took the loss, conceding four goals on six shots.
McGill, which improved to 4-3-1 overall, returns to regular season play on Sept. 15, when they host Sherbrooke at Molson Stadium in the backend of a women's and men's doubleheader.
