Peters scores tying goal in dying seconds of extra time vs Mounties

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Anderson Peters' goal in extra time tied the game at one against the visiting Mount Allison Mounties on Homecoming weekend.

Peters, who was named the AUS Subway Player of the Game for his heroic goal to tie the match, kicked in a loose ball that began from a long feed to Oscar Marshall who attempted a shot that was stopped by a Mountie defender. Peters picked up the unattended ball and sent it to the back of the net with seconds remaining.

The Mounties were the first on the scoreboard with a goal from Ahmed Hafez in the 56th minute. Teammate Tevin Lewis picked up a long kick by Mountie keeper Rhys Chambers and was able to get behind two Acadia defenders to get a shot off that Dylan Legere was able to stop but not control the rebound. Hafez then kicked in the rebound as Legere was sprawled on the ground after the first save.

The Axemen had two shots on goal and 14 shots, while the Mounties tested Legere with four shots on goal and seven shots.

"We dominated the game, but we need to make it count. Our guys never gave and I stand by them and their effort, but we shouldn't have been in that position of tying in the dying seconds," noted associate head coach Findlay MacRae.

The Axemen improve to 0-5-3 but are still searching for their first win, while the Mounties drop to 0-6-2.

Acadia travels to Saint Mary's on Sunday at 3:15 pm and Mount Allison hosts the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Sunday at 3:15 pm.
