McGill scores three unanswered goals to top Ridgebacks in overtime

MONTREAL, Que. – Playing in their first overtime action this season in Montreal, the Ontario Tech University men's hockey team ended up on the wrong side of a 4-3 final against McGill University.

McGill ousted Ontario Tech last season in their two-game playoff series and the Ridgebacks entered Friday night action looking for some revenge. The game started positive for the visitors as they jumped out to an early two-goal lead just over seven minutes into the opening frame.

The teams traded a pair of goals during the second, with Ontario Tech holding a 3-1 advantage heading into the third period. The Ridgebacks held the lead with a strong defensive effort but a pair of goals in the final two minutes of regulation by the home side sent the game to an extra frame. McGill controlled much of the 3-on-3 action and were rewarded late with the winner.

Ontario Tech remains in Montreal and resume action tomorrow when they face the Concordia Stingers for the team's second meeting of the season.
Sean Ross (Bracebridge, Ont.) collected not only his first career OUA goal, but also added a second tally in the game. Ross opened the scoring at 1:47 after beating the goalie from the right faceoff dot. His second of the game was a beautiful finish after receiving the outlet pass from J.C. Thivierge (Welland, Ont.). Josh Maguire (Cobourg, Ont.) gave the Ridgebacks the 2-0 lead at 7:11 of the first, when he sniped his third of the year from the slot.
• Nikolas Brouillard added two goals for the home side with his first coming at 11:24 of the second making it a 2-1 game. He later tied the game 3-3 at 19:10 of the third.
• Guillaume Gauthier brought McGill within a goal with 1:54 left in regulation and Keanu Yamamoto scored the winner at 4:45 in the extra frame.
Michael Bullion (Anchorage, Alaska) provided the Ridgebacks with 39 saves.
• Louis-Philip Guindon made 31 saves in the home net.
