Miller makes history in Ridgebacks win

OSHAWA, Ont. – A four-goal explosion in the last 12 minutes of play gave the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks a dominant 5-1 over the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday afternoon.

Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) earned his 16th career win with the Ridgebacks, making him the all-time wins leader for the men's soccer program, passing Travis Martin's 15 wins.

It was not the ideal start that Ontario Tech was hoping for as Ryan Roy gave the Lakers the early 1-0 lead in the 15th minute. The lead was short lived as Fadi Salback (Bowmanville, Ont.) tied the game with his first of two goals just three minutes later.

"The first 20 minutes we were just too comfortable with the game, but after the goal (Salback's first) they came out," said assistant coach Ramin Mahammadi. "Overall we're happy with the performance. It was good."

Salback gave the Ridgebacks the lead with his second goal in the 79th minute, heading in a perfect cross by Elijah Lorenc-Clarke (Scarborough, Ont.). Almost immediately after play resumed Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.) showed great individual effort to increase the Ridgeback lead to 3-1.

The Ridgebacks continued to press the play and forced the Lakers into a penalty inside the box. Chris Campoli (Woodbridge, Ont.) buried the ensuing penalty kick, giving Ontario tech the 4-1 lead with under ten minutes left in regular time. Ajala-Alexis added his second of the match during injury time.

Miller made three saves earning the win. Andrew Johnstone made one save, taking the loss, but was replaced in the 80th minute by Gabriel Pastore who stopped two of the four shots he faced.
  Overall Record: 6-3-4
Conference Record: 6-2-4
