Ridgebacks comeback falls short against Badgers

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Ontario Tech University women's hockey team fell short in their comeback bid Saturday night, losing 4-3 to the Brock Badgers.

It was another quick start for the Ridgebacks as Natalie Wozney (Whitby, Ont.) scored her first OUA goal just under a minute into the action. Both teams forechecked and searched for the next goal throughout the remained of the opening period. Unfortunately, it was the Badgers that found the back of the net late in the period to send the game into intermission tied 1-1.

The Ridgebacks regained the lead during the second period, only to see the home team tie the game just three minutes later. Another late period goal gave the Badgers the 3-2 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Trailing by two goals the Ridgebacks fought hard and pulled within one with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Although pressing hard, Ontario Tech could not find the equalizer before the final buzzer.

The Ridgebacks are set to return home next weekend when they welcome the Waterloo Warriors to the Campus Ice Centre Friday night.
  • Wozney took a feed from Megan Johnston (Goderich, Ont.) to open the scoring at 1:25 of the first period.
• Rebekah Feld tied the game at 19:57 of the opening frame.
Blaire Allison (Pickering, Ont.) found the top corner over the goalie's blocker, after joining the rush to regain the Ridgebacks lead at 7:41 of the second.
• Hunter Accursi evened the game for a second time at 10:34, with Annie Berg converting on the power play at 17:21 of the second to give Brock a go-ahead goal.
