MSOC | Lakers Top Voyageurs 2-0

MSOC | Lakers Top Voyageurs 2-0

A day after a hard fought loss to the Nipissing Lakers, the Voyageurs welcomed Nipissing to Sudbury to close out their home and home weekend.  Unfortunately, despite another solid effort, it was a 2-0 defeat on the final score sheet.

The game began with lots of back and forth action concentrated in the middle of the field.  In the 17th minute, a free kick from distance ricocheted off the face of the Lakers' attacker who was just making a run in the box, ended up in the back of the net.  The Voyageurs shook that off and continued to battle but couldn't connect on the final ball, leaving the score 1-0 at the half.

The second half was the same as the first, with a number of battles in the middle of the pitch but no real chances until the 76th minute when the Nipissing forward was sent through all alone on Voyageurs keeper, Ben Firman.  Firman, who was making his first start for Laurentian, was able to get a hand to the shot but couldn't quite parry the ball over the net as it dropped under the cross bar for a 2-0 lead and eventual win.  Firman made six saves in the defeat.

The Voyageurs are now off for 12 days before welcoming Queen's to town on Sept. 24th at 2:15pm.
