MONTREAL -- Goalkeeper
Victor Henry made seven saves and stopped a pair of spectacular penalty-kicks while teammate
Sebastian Cobuzzi tallied a late game-winner, on a PK, as McGill blanked UQAM 1-0 in men's soccer before more than 500 at Percival Molson Stadium, Thursday.
It was the first career shutout for Henry, a 6-foot-2, 183-pound sophomore from France, who started for the second straight outing and was sensational. The 19-year-old mathematics and computer science major stopped a penalty kick by UQAM's
Diego Giuly in the 34th minute of play to preserve a scoreless draw. Then, he repeated that feat in the second half, stopping
Mathieu Gosselin on another penalty kick, in the 61st minute.
McGill was finally awarded a PK of their own in the 82nd minute and Cobuzzi converted. The computer science junior from St. Leonard, Que., kicked a rocket past
Younes Soubaa for the winning tally.
The Redbirds held a 15-11 edge in shots directed at the net, including a 9-7 margin on target. UQAM took five of the nine corner kicks in the contest and was assessed 14 of 23 fouls.
Three yellow cards were issues by the officials, with
Matthew Marshall and
Joseph Getz being flagged for McGill and
Patrick Denis receiving a caution for UQAM.
McGill (1-1-0) will play next on the road at UQTR (1-0-0) on Sept. 19 in a 1 p.m. kickoff. UQAM (0-1-0) plays at Concordia (0-1-0) the same afternoon.
