Madi Seymour provides offence with spark to shutout Lions

Sept. 8: Western 1 York 0

LONDON, Ont. - After a slow start, the Western Mustangs women's soccer team played a strong second half to defeat the York Lions 1-0 Wednesday Sept. 8 at TD Waterhouse Stadium.

The win gives this young Mustangs squad their first of the regular season year, improving their OUA West record to 1-2.

Madi Seymour, of St. Catharines, Ont., scored the winner as she found the back of the net with a nice chip shot in the 65th minute.

Jodie Scoular of Oakville, Ont., got the shutout in net for Western.

She made a nice save to secure a high ball early in the second half. As she challenged for the ball, the referee determined that the York player fouled her on the play, and even though the ball bounced into the net the play was blown dead to keep the game scoreless.

Western earned valuable momentum for the duration of the second half and soon after scored the game's lone goal.

The Mustangs will next host Brock at TD Waterhouse Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m.
