CAPERS defeat STFX in AUS women's basketball action
SYDNEY – The Cape Breton University (CBU) CAPERS (4-0) won over the STFX X-Women (2-2) in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women's basketball regular season action on Saturday, November 9 at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
The CAPERS netted the first basket of the game and kept the lead for the duration aside from a brief moment when the teams were tied in the second quarter. The X-Women fought hard and kept the game close for the duration with the largest gap in the score (11) at the end of the third quarter.
Shannon Neita (Toronto, ON) – the STFX player of the game - led the charge for STFX with 16 points and 8 rebounds followed by Laia Torrent Blanco (Cornella de Llobregat, SP) with 15 points. Kristine Cooper (Hamilton, ON) chipped in with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Kiyara Letlow (Toronto, ON) – the Subway player of the game for CBU - boasted a double-double with 29 points and 19 rebounds to secure the win for the CAPERS. Teammates Hailey MacLeod (Marion Bridge, NS) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds and Alicia Bowering (Orangeville, ON) with 11 points and 2 rebounds.
The X-Women head to UNB next weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday while the CBU CAPERS play their back-to-back games next weekend at Dalhousie.
