(FREDERICTON, NB) Marley Curwin (Halifax, NS) scored a game-high 14 points to lead the UNB REDS in a decisive 77-35 preseason victory over the McGill Martlets on Friday.

It was the opening game for both teams at UNB's 2022 Helen Campbell Memorial Tournament, presented by Stewart-McKelvey.

"We really came out with confidence," said Curiwn. "We were all super hyped up to play, so we had that energy and wanted to win."

Every RED scored in the win, including reigning Atlantic University Sport MVP Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS), who scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds in her UNB debut.

"I think Jayda had a great game," said Curwin. "Erin (Ingalls) had great minutes. Katie Mac (McAffee) had great minutes. Our two posts battled hard. I could say great things about everyone."

Katie Rathwell (North Battleford, SK) came off the bench to lead McGill scorers with 10 points.

Katie McAffee (Lower Knoxford, NB) registered six assists and three steals for the REDS, along with six points.

Earlier on Friday, the Cape Breton Capers built a 20-plus point lead then hung on to beat the Manitoba Bisons 78-75.

The Campbell Tournament continues Saturday with the Martlets facing the Capers at 2:00pm and the Bisons taking on the REDS at 6:00pm.
