Friday will be the annual Mélisa Kingsley Memorial Game. A strong student and passionate hockey player from Sudbury, Ont., Mélisa was recruited to the Gee-Gees in 2016. A forward with a scoring touch, great hands, and a strong shot, Kingsley suited up for the Garnet and Grey in the 2017-18 season. At that time, she was already undergoing treatment for synovial sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She passed away at age 20 in October 2018.
A scholarship was established in 2020 at the University of Ottawa to celebrate Mélisa and all of the joy that she brought to the ice and to her friends and family. Funds collected by the Gee-Gees on Friday will go directly to the scholarship. For more information and to donate, CLICK HERE.
The 2021-22 recipient of the scholarship was second-year forward Alèxe Clavelle.
