Gryphons fall to No. 7 Badgers, 71-56

ST.CATHARINE'S, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon women's basketball team dropped a 71-56 road game today to the CIS No. 7 Brock Badgers in St. Catharine's tonight (Jan. 16).  The Gryphon's struggles continue in the New Year, dropping five straight games and falling in the standings to 4-8.  The Badgers improved to 12-0.  
 
Early in the second quarter Brock led 26-16, before going on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes leading by 20, 36-16, with five minutes left in the half. The Badgers led 44-26 after 20 minutes. In the third quarter, Guelph outscored Brock 21-12, including two 7-0 runs, cutting their deficit to nine points, 56-47. In the final frame, Brock closed out the final four minutes with a 9-2 run, on route to their 12th straight conference victory.
 
Kayla Goodhoofd and Erica McFadden led the Guelph offense registering 17 and 12 points respectively in the loss.
 
For the game, the Gryphons shot 28.6% (20-for-70), 36.4% (8-for-22) from beyond the arc and 80.0% (8-for-10) from the charity stripe. The Badgers shot 43.1% from the field going 28-for-65. They were also 40.0% (6-for-15) and 60.0% (9-for-15) from the free throw line.
 
The Gryphons return home this weekend and hope that their home court will reverse their fortunes of late however they will have a tall order on Saturday when they host the CIS No. 3 Windsor Lancers (11-0).  Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
