(HALIFAX, NS) The Saint Mary's Huskies beat the short-staffed UNB Reds 4-0, in Halifax, on Saturday afternoon.

With only 13 skaters dressed for UNB, the game was tilted in the home team's favour right from the start.

Three unanswered goals in the second period, and one late in the third, propelled the Huskies to victory.

The first period was scoreless, as neutral zone turnovers by both teams limited scoring opportunities.

The Huskies opened the scoring mid-way through the second, when Aimee O'Neill (Glace Bay, NS) picked up a beautiful cross-ice pass in the neutral zone. She put a shot into the top corner of the net on the glove side of goalie Kendra Woodland (Kamloops, BC).

With six minutes to go, Saint Mary's was on the power-play and a shot from the point bounced through traffic in front of the net before Ellen Laurence (Kentville, NB) grabbed it and scored.

SMU extended their lead again in the last few minutes of the second. Shae Demale (Red Deer, AB) was behind the goal line beside the Reds' net. She passed to Mary McDonald (Calgary, AB) in the slot, who fired a wrist shot high, glove side, to make it 3-0 Huskies.

The Reds started the third period with two back-to-back power-plays. They had scoring chances, but couldn't get the puck to the back of the net.

With less than a minute to go, the Huskies scored again. After some rough play in the corner, the puck popped out and Brooke Murphy (Balla Phillip, NB) who scored a bar down goal.

O'Neill was named the Subway Player of the Game.

The Huskies are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Dalhousie.

The Reds see their next action on home ice, on Saturday, hosting the UPEI Panthers. Game time is 3:00pm.
