Hawks Earn 2-1 Victory Over Mount A

In extremely windy conditions at the King George V Park in St. Johns, Newfoundland, as Hurricane Larry left its mark in today's match. The Sea-Hawks scraped out a 2-1 victory in both team's opening matches of the season. The wind played a huge factor in the game, as every pass, touch and shot was directly influenced by the huge gusts.

Claire Langille opened the scoring at the 17:59 mark to spring the Sea-Hawks quickly into the lead over the Mounties, assisted by Katie Joyce. Not to be denied, the Mounties bounced back with a goal in the 36th minute scored by Kathryn Perry after a nice through ball found the streaking attacker.

Stuck in a 1-1 deadlock entering the second-half, it was anybody's game as there wasn't much to separate the two sides. Both sides played a tight, defensive second frame with the Sea-Hawks converting at 60:49 on a goal from Katie Joyce to take back the lead, the midfielder was found all alone in front and made no mistake. The Sea-Hawks remained stingy throughout the remainder of the game, preventing any oncoming attacks from a hungry Mounties team and eventually escaping the game with a 2-1 victory.
