Salback sets men’s soccer single-season scoring record

OSHAWA, Ont. – A big weekend by freshman Fadi Salback (Bowmanville, Ont.) has set a new Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's soccer single-season scoring record at 13 goals.

He finished the weekend with two goals in a 6-0 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs after scoring twice in Saturday's victory over the Nipissing Lakers. Salback could increase that total before conference play concludes as Ontario Tech still has two matches remaining next weekend.

The Ridgebacks' previous single-season record was set at 10 goals by Fabio Campoli in 2016.

On top of setting a new single-season record, his current 13-goal total also has him sitting first in the OUA in scoring, one ahead of Brock's Jared Agyemang and four more than teammate Jean Paul Ajala-Alexis (Oshawa, Ont.).

In Sunday's victory Salback opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing on a pass by Carlos Edic (Toronto, Ont.). Elijah Lorenc-Clarke (Scarborough, Ont.) followed with a goal of his own in the 26th minute on a penalty kick after he was taken down in the 18-yard box.

Salback and Ajala-Alexis scored in the 33rd and 41st minutes to enter the half up 4-0.

The remaining two goals came from Ajala-Alexis in the first 10 minutes of the second half, giving him the hat trick.

In goal Nicholas Miller (Oshawa, Ont.) and Masoom Saromie (Ajax, Ont.) split the clean sheet, while Adam Scanlon allowed four goals on five shots to start for Laurentian and Keeghan Ezzard allowed two on five shots.

Next weekend Ontario Tech faces the Trent Excalibur on Saturday in Peterborough before returning to Vaso's Field on Sunday to host the Toronto Varsity Blues in their season finale. Regardless of any results next weekend the Ridgebacks are locked into fourth place and cannot fall to fifth or move up to third.

  Overall Record: 7-3-4
Conference Record: 6-2-4
