WSOC | Voyageurs Show Batter, Still Fall to Lakers

It was gut check time for the Voyageurs on Sunday as they squared off against a Nipissing Lakers squad who thoroughly outplayed them to the tune of an 11-0 score the day before.  While the final score read 2-0 in favour of Nipissing at the end of the game on Sunday, it was an extremely strong bounce back by the blue and gold.

Hunter Jones was once again busy in net but she was equal to the task, turning aside all seven shots she faced in the first half, leaving the game tied 0-0 after 45 minutes.  Just two minutes into the second half, however, the Lakers were awarded a penalty kick and Samantha Brooks made no mistake.  That score line held until the 80th minute when the Lakers added an insurance marker, handing the Voyageurs their second defeat in as many days.

Jones turned away 13 shots in the loss, giving her 26 saves on the weekend.  The Voyageurs will now have 12 days off before welcoming the Queen's Gaels to town on Sept. 24th at 12pm.
