CAPERS fall short in 4th quarter push against Huskies
Sydney, NS - The CBU CAPERS fell short against the Saint Mary's Huskies in AUS Women's Basketball Action at the Sullivan Fieldhouse on Friday, February 7.
The first quarter saw the Huskies pull ahead 20-11 with the CAPERS struggling to find the hoop. The second quarter saw similar action with the Huskies heading to the locker room ahead 36-18.
The CAPERS started to break down the strong Husky defence in the 3rd quarter but still trailed 51-36. CBU made a big push in the fourth quarter coming within 10 points of the Huskies, but it wasn't enough to overtake the conference leaders.
Lucina Beaumont led the charge for the Huskies with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Clara Gascoigne added 15 points and 6 rebounds while Marlo Steenbakkers chipped in with 11 points and 3 rebounds.
Kiyara Letlow's double-double led the CAPERS with 21 points and 17 rebounds. Chermensa Van la Parra and Alicia Bowering both contributed 9 points and 3 assists.
Saint Mary's plays again tomorrow, February 8, in Antigonish against the St. FX X-Women with tip-off at 6pm.
The CAPERS are home against Dalhousie for the final home games of the season on February 14 and 15. Tip-off is at 6pm for both games.
