Axewomen season comes to a close in Halifax
The Saint Mary's Huskies wrapped up their regular season with a 3-1 victory over the Acadia Axemen in AUS women's volleyball action on Saturday.
Saint Mary's took the opening set 25-14, capitalizing on an 18-10 lead despite a late push from Acadia that included a service ace from Jenna Lake. The Huskies claimed the second set 25-19 after an early four-point run put them ahead, while Acadia fought back in the third set, securing a 25-18 win with key plays from Katie MacLean and Alexia Lemay-Evans. The Huskies closed out the match in the fourth set, winning 25-17 after regaining control following an early Acadia rally.
MacLean led the Axemen with 26 assists and four service aces while recording no errors. Lemay-Evans was strong defensively with six blocks, including four solo efforts, and added eight digs. Lake finished with a .308 hitting percentage, collecting 10 kills and 11 total points. Charley McDonald was efficient in limited action, registering a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage.
Saint Mary's offensive attack was led by Emilia Mikanovich, who posted 17 kills, three service aces and a team-high 21 points. Setter Grace Blaskovits orchestrated the Huskies' offence with 39 assists while adding four service aces. Sydney Fader contributed 14 kills and 16 points with an impressive .478 hitting percentage.
With the regular season complete, both teams now prepare for the AUS playoffs.
