(FREDERICTON, NB) Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) had 12 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line as the Saint Mary's Huskies led wire-to-wire to defeat the UNB REDS 70-61 on Saturday.

McMillan was named Subway Player of the Game.

"It's really nice to end the season on a win, especially two nights in a row, I know they're a really tough team to play against and they have really talented players so it was just great that we were able to pull through, get a nice win for all of us, and heading into playoffs it's good momentum as well," said McMillan.

Lucy Beaumont (Fredericton, NB) led the Huskies with 15 points while Clara Gascoigne (Dartmouth, NS) and Marlo Steenbakkers (Ottawa, ON) each had 11 points and five rebounds.

Katie McAffee (Lower Knoxford, NB) led the REDS with 15 points, while Kylee Speedy (Fredericton, NB) had 12 and Erin Ingalls (St. George, NB) had 10.

In the face of a tough result, the REDS pulled positives from their effort and approach to the game.

"I think the important thing was, yes they were ahead, but we never played with the mentality that we were going to lose the game," said Ingalls. "We kept our heads up the whole time and never got down on ourselves."

The Huskies would dominate the opening quarter, starting the game on a 15-5 run that they further turned into a 22-10 by the end of the first.

SMU kept this gap for much of the second quarter until the REDS came alive in the final few minutes of the half with a 14-3 run to cut the lead to just five for the Huskies, 34-29.

The Huskies would keep the REDS at arm's length through the third and hold a 48-42 lead going into the fourth quarter.

UNB would find no answers in the final frame, and the Huskies cruised to a 70-61 win.

With the regular season concluded, both teams will head to Halifax next weekend for the Atlantic University Sport Championship Tournament.

The Huskies finish with a 12-4 record, while the REDS went 6-8.

Their championship tournament opponents, and dates and times of their games, have yet to be determined.
