TORONTO, Ont. – Being outscored 35-16 in the fourth quarter, the Ontario Tech men's basketball team had their dreams of a second win shattered as they fell 91-88 to the York Lions in the second last game of their inaugural season on Wednesday night.
The Ridgebacks went down 25-15 after a quarter, but jumped ahead 48-41 at halftime. They pushed that lead to 72-56 after three, but couldn't finish in the fourth.
Graddy Kanku (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Ridgebacks with 33 points, while also leading with six assists and pulling in eight boards.
AJ Cummings (Ajax, Ont.) and
Ammar Hassan (London, Ont.) scored 23 and 19 points respectively, while Hassan was one rebound short of a double-double with nine.
DeAndrae Pierre made the game-winning basket, dropping back-to-back free throws with 20 seconds remaining to put his team ahead 89-88. He also hit another free throw with 1.7 seconds to go and then caught the rebound off the miss of his second shot to clinch the game. He finished with 23 points.
Leading the Lions offence was Prince Kamunga with 25 points, alongside nine boards.
