OSHAWA, Ont. – It was Military Appreciation Night at the Campus Ice Centre as the Ontario Tech University women's hockey team paid respect with a ceremony before the game, while looking to continue their winning streak.
Ultimately, the Ridgebacks fell 4-1 to the No. 10 York Lions, ending their win streak at three games.
A pair of early period goals set the Ridgebacks behind the eight ball, after surrendering the opening goal midway through the first period. Although trailing for much of the game, the home team showed great spirit, as they made the Lions work for every inch of ice. The Ridgebacks were rewarded for their hard work early in the final frame, but they were unable to build off the momentum.
Ontario Tech is back on the road next weekend as they travel down the 401 to face the Queen's Gaels, a team they shutout to end the first half schedule.
• Madison Davey opened the scoring at 9:35 of the first for the Lions.
• Kara Washer doubled the visitors lead on the power play just 1:27 into the second, while Brooke Anderson needed just 25 seconds to make it 3-0 for York.
•
Natalie Wozney (Whitby, Ont.) brought the Ridgebacks to within one, with her eighth goal of the season, just 5:39 into the third.
• Avery Reeves empty netter sealed the game for the visitors with just 19 seconds left.
•
Celine Tessier (Chapleau, Ont.) stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss.
• Juliana Thomson surrendered just one goal on 28 shots.
