(FREDERICTON, NB) Elizabeth Beals-Iseyemi (Dartmouth, NS) dropped 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a dominant performance to lead the Acadia Axewomen in a 65-46 win over the UNB REDS, in Fredericton, on Friday evening.

Beals-Iseyemi was a physical force at both ends of the floor and earned Subway Player of the Game as a result.

"That [physical play] was something we were emphasizing this whole week at practice," said Iseyemi. "They have some really tall and aggressive post-players, so we really wanted to focus on making sure that wasn't a factor in the game."

Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, NS) had an equally stellar game for Acadia with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds of her own.

Kylee Speedy (Fredericton, NB) led the REDS with 11 points and four rebounds, while Marley Curwin (Halifax, NS) added 10 points.

"We let them set how we play and didn't play our game," said Speedy. "We panicked with the ball, didn't run and they were definitely more physical than us."

The game opened fairly evenly with the REDS having an early 5-4 edge on the scoreboard.

The Axewomen would heat up in the back half of the first quarter, ending the quarter with a 12-3 run to lead 21-9.

UNB ate away at Acadia's lead with stronger play in the second quarter, but the Axewomen put forth tough defence in the paint, keeping the REDS offence at range to maintain a 32-25 lead at half-time.

The Axewomen would continue to smother the REDS offence and turn up their own in a dominant third quarter, outscoring UNB 22-7 for a 54-32 lead heading into the final frame.

The REDS would outscore the Axewomen 14-11 in the fourth, but that would be their only consolation as Acadia took the win 65-46.

The Axewomen improve to 3-2 on the season while the REDS fall to 2-3.

These two teams will meet again Saturday, at UNB's Currie Center. Game time is 1:00pm.
