Women's Basketball vs. Windsor
The contest took a chippy turn early, as both squads picked up three team fouls within the first three minutes.  Miah-Marie Langlois (Windsor, ON) picked up two infractions early in the period, but Caitlyn Longmuir filled in quite nicely as the Kingsville, Ont. native dropped a three seconds after entering the game. The Gryphons struggled offensively in the first, allowing the Lancers to take a 23-11 lead after the opening quarter.

Williams (Windsor) knocked down four straight points within the first 30 seconds of the second frame, and another jumper from beyond the arc by Longmuir pushed the lead to 16.  Langlois and Jocelyn LaRocque (Windsor) nailed back-to-back threes for the Lancers, and the advantage was further increased to 20-plus on another three-ball from Longmuir, who led all players with 11 points through the first two periods.  The Gryphons would take a small bite out of the spread late in the quarter, but faced a 42-25 deficit at the half.  The Lancers shot 37.8% compared to 31.0% from Guelph, and the teams combined for 20 turnovers throughout the half.

The teams traded points through most of the third period, but the Gryphons were able to make up some of their deficit, slicing Windsor's advantage down to 13 at the 2:05 mark of the quarter.  Foul trouble plagued both squads throughout the quarter, creating extra points for the one another.  However, Guelph persevered and a late jumper brought them within 12 heading into the final stanza.

Erica McFadden (Alma, ON) drained a three, bringing the lead down to single digits for the first time since the first quarter.  However, that seemed to awaken the home side, as the women went on a tear for the next four minutes, spreading the lead to 24 points and nullifying Guelph's comeback bid.  Langlois came alive in the final quarter, twice stealing the ball and converting it into an easy layup.  Her three pointer with just over two minutes remaining capped an explosive fourth quarter in which Windsor tallied a staggering 32 points.

The Lancers finished the game shooting just over 45%, while Guelph worked at 33.9% efficiency.  The teams would combine for 45 turnovers in the contest, Windsor picking up 22 of that total.  However, the Lancers made up for that on the boards, pulling down 51 in the game, 22 more than the Gryphons.

The Gryphons will look to bounce back Wednesday, January 9 when they take on the Marauders. Tip off is scheduled for 6pm.
