(SACKVILLE, NB) Jenna MacLean scored near the mid-way mark of the second overtime frame as the UNB Reds beat the Mount Allison Mounties 3-2 on Friday, in Sackville.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first period as Mounties sophomore Bianca Zak (Stonewall, MB) pushed aside eight shots from the Reds. For her part, Reds goalie Hailey Martens (Ladysmith, BC) stopped the six shots she faced.

The second period followed the same trend as the teams were kept off the scoresheet. UNB, on the strength of three power-plays, took a decided advantage in shots, outshooting the Mounties 9-1 in the period. Zak was the Mounties best penalty killer with a few key saves to keep the game scoreless.

The Mounties took the first lead of the game when Olivia Henley (Stephenville, NL) scored off a scramble play from an offensive zone faceoff less than three minutes into the third period.

The Reds responded just 22 seconds later when Lillian George (Garden Village, ON) scored.

Six minutes, later the Reds took a 2-1 lead on a goal by Tamina Kehler (Chilliwack, BC)

But the Mounties had some last-minute drama for the home crowd, as Abby Beale (Sackville, NB) scored on the power-play with just over a minute remaining to tie the game 2-2. Beale was named the Subway Player of the Game.

Neither team was able to score in the first overtime, and MacLean ended it when she scored 2:11 into the second OT.

The Mounties return to action on Saturday when they host Dalhousie. UNB returns home for a Saturday afternoon contest with St FX.
