OSHAWA, Ont. – On Saturday afternoon the Ontario Tech University women's hockey team recognized their graduating senior players before the game, but unfortunately fell 2-0 to the visiting Western Mustangs.
Seniors
Grace Donaldson (St. Thomas, Ont.),
Nicole Zabel (Palmerston, Ont.) and
Kassidy Ford (Gananoque, Ont.) were all recognized before puck drop in a special ceremony. Once the puck was down the Ridgebacks and Mustangs held nothing back as Ontario Tech wrapped up their home schedule of the 2019-20 season.
The teams traded chances throughout the first 30 minutes of action before the Mustangs broke through and claimed the lead. From there the Ridgebacks continued to battle, but a second goal early in the third was all the visitors needed to coast into victory.
Ontario Tech will now conclude their season when they travel to Guelph next Wednesday for a match against the Gryphons, whom the Ridgebacks collected their first win of the season against.
• Kira Memet opened the scoring for the Mustangs with 7:12 left the second period.
• Sophie Young doubled the lead for the visitors 2:45 into the third period.
•
Briar Hughes (Thornton, Ont.) had 32 saves in her first loss of 2020.
• Carmen Lasis stopped all 34 shots for the shutout.
