OSHAWA, Ont. – In their second ever preseason game, the Ontario Tech University women's basketball team fell 80-70 to the York Lions.
"Our staff was happy to see our players compete the entire game," said head coach
Christa Eniojukan. "They made great strides from our first game on Friday night. We have to carry this momentum into our game on Wednesday."
It was simply one quarter where the game got away from the Ridgebacks on Sunday afternoon as Ontario Tech stayed with York for most of the game. They were down by one after the opening quarter and eight at the half.
The third was where the struggle came as York was 3-for-4 from three and outscored the Ridgebacks 22-7 in the quarter. Ontario Tech rebounded with 30 points in fourth, but it was too late to mount a comeback.
Dalyssa Fleurgin (Montreal, Que.) led with a game-high 17 points, while
Alyssa Carin (Brampton, Ont.) and
Katherine Onunkwo (Montreal, Que.) each finished with 10 for the Ridgebacks.
York's offence was widespread as five players were in double-digits, led by Madison Bardoel's 14 points.
On Wednesday night the Ridgebacks host the St. FX X-Women at 6 p.m. in their final preseason game.
