TORONTO -- Ralph Khayat, a mining engineering freshman from Lebanon, scored the game-winning goal as the McGill University men's soccer team edged Queen's 2-1 on Day 1 of the Old Four tournament at the U of T Varsity Centre, Saturday.

McGill advances to face the Western Mustangs in Sunday's gold medal final at 5:15 p.m. The Gaels will take on the host Varsity Blues in a consolation match at 12:15 p.m.

Combined with a 3-1 victory earlier for the Martlets over Queen's, it marks the third consecutive year that McGill has reached the Old Four final in both the men's and women's divisions. The last time that McGill won the tournament, in either division, was in 2014, when the Redmen prevailed. The last Martlets tourney title was in 2012.

McGill opened the scoring in the 35th minute when Clovis Fowo, a mechanical engineering senior from Paris, France, beat Gaels replacement goalkeeper Andrew Martin. But that lead didn't last long though, as Gaels defender Jeffrey Russell headed in a Rohan Sama free-kick in the 44th minute, sending the teams into the intermission deadlocked at 1-1.

Khayat, a speedy 5-foot-8, 165-pound forward, notched the eventual game-winner in the 65th minute when he took full advantage of a loose ball in the box.

Blade Allen, an engineering junior from Vancouver, B.C., started in net for McGill but was not the goalkeeper of record after allowing one goal in 45 minutes. Freshman 'keeper Antoine Marchal of Montreal took over in the secnd half and held the Gaels scoreless to earn the win.

The Redmen, who lost 3-1 at York in their preseason opener on Thursday, evened their record at 1-1.
