The STFX X-Women were in Quebec this past weekend for a pair of pre-season exhibition games. The blue and white went 1-1 with an 81-64 loss to Laval and an 84-67 win over Concordia.
On Friday night in Quebec City, the X-Women trailed the Laval Rouge et Or 21-16 after the first quarter. They played a close second quarter and were down by six, 40-34 at halftime.
Laval then outpaced STFX 41-30 in the STFX half on route to the 81-64 win.
Aliyah Fraser scored 17 points for the X-Women and had four steals in the game. Katie Upham scored 16 and had five assists and four steals. Jaya D'Souza added 11 off the X bench.
Saturday afternoon, the X-Women came out strong in their 84-67 win over the Concordia Stingers, leading 23-15 after the first quarter.
They were up 43-31 at half time and continued their strong play throughout the second half on route to their first pre-season win of the 2022-23 season and the first career victory for head coach Matt Spencer.
Melina Collins was the leading X-Women scorer with 23 points and the top rebounder with six.
Kira Atherley scored 15 points, Fraser netted 14 and Upham had 10, along with five assists, a block and a pair of steals.
The X-Women have one game remaining on their pre-season exhibition schedule. They will travel to Halifax on October 16th to play Dalhousie in a 12:00 pm tip-off.
