Antigonish, NS - The X-Women soccer team opened up pre-season exhibition play on their home turf at StFX Oland Stadium Thursday morning in the first game of the X-Women Invitational tournament. It marked the first game action for the defending AUS champions who return a good number of starters from the championship squad.

The teams played to a 0-0 draw through regulation. Veteran keeper Erin Visser (Whitby, ON) was in nets for the X-Women in the opening half and freshman Emma Kuzmyk (Aurora, ON) took over for the second frame.

The game was decided by penalty kicks and the visiting Capers took the decision. After they missed their first shot, X-Women forward Margaux Fraser (Mississauga, ON) rang one off the post.

The Capers then made good on three consecutive penalty kicks while the X-Women missed.

The second game of the day was also decided by penalty kicks as the Mount Allison Mounties defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1.

The X-Women will face the Tigers in the first game Friday at 10:00 am, while the Mounties and Capers will play for the tournament title at 12:00 pm.
