(WOLFVILLE, NS) Ross MacDougall (St. Stephen, NB) scored the only goal of the shootout and Rylan Parenteau (Saskatoon, SK) stopped all three shots he faced in shootout to lead the UNB REDS in a 3-2 come-from-behind win over the Acadia Axemen, Friday night, in Wolfville.

MacDougall is playing his first season with the REDS after spending three seasons with the Axemen.

The Axemen held their own with the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked REDS, taking an early 2-0 lead.

Rookie forward Keegan Stevenson (Aweres Township, ON) opened the scoring thanks to Nick Deakin-Poot's (Georgetown, ON) work in the offensive zone.

Stevenson scored on his own rebound, off a pass from Deakin-Poot, while falling.

Peyton Hoyt (Lincoln, NB) doubled the score for Acadia on a broken play that led to a 2-on-1. Hoyt took a pass from Jordy Stallard (Brandon, MB) and slid a wrist shot in for the 2-0 lead.

Despite trailing, the REDS outshot Acadia 10-6 in the first period, and the REDS continued their offensive barrage in the second, with 21 more shots.

Jason Willms (Kitchener, ON) slid the puck past Axemen goalie Max Paddock (Brandon, MB) on a scramble play to make it 2-1.

Subway Player of the Game Mark Rassell (Calgary, AB) scored on a one-timer, on the power-play, from the edge of the crease to tie the game 2-2, which is where things stood going into the third period.

Neither team was able to capitalize in the final frame, despite a number of odd-man rushes for both teams.

UNB dominated the overtime period, holding possession of the puck for the first 1:30.

While both teams had chances, they required the shootout to determine the winner.

Parenteau stopped 15 of 17 shots on the night, while Paddock was stellar at the other end, stopping 40 of 42 shots, earning second star honours.

"Everybody came to play again, just like last weekend," said Paddock. "We've shown the top two teams we can play with them. It's great to see a group of guys come back the second semester to really gel as a team and be able to compete with the best of them."

With the win, the REDS improve to 19-and-2 and clinch first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings and a first-round playoff bye. UNB own's the best winning percentage in U SPORTS men's hockey.

The Axemen are now 6-13-0-1 and sit in sixth place.

UNB travels to Halifax for a Saturday evening visit with the Saint Mary's Huskies. Game time is 7:00pm.

The Axemen play host to Moncton.
