Campoli ties scoring record in Ridgebacks win over Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. – Christopher Campoli's (Woodbridge, Ont.) two goals not only lifted the Ridgebacks to a 2-0 victory on Saturday, but with the two-goal performance he tied the Ontario Tech men's soccer all-time scoring record.

His two goals tie Erik Petrovic, who finished his career with 20 goals. Campoli has 20 over 25 conference matches, which also passes his brother Fabio who finished with 19 goals in his career.

On Saturday he broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, finding the back of the net from a cross by Matthew Perovic (Toronto, Ont). Ontario Tech would hold their 1-0 lead going into the half.

Ontario Tech was looking to start of the second half with a bang. In the 51st minute of play the Ridgebacks were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out from goal. Campoli stepped up and hit a beautifully placed free kick into the top right corner taking his tally up to two against the Gaels.

Goalkeeper Matthew Mattila (Pickering, Ont.) made eight saves in a Ridgebacks shutout over the Gaels.

The Ridgebacks men's soccer team is next in action against the Durham Lords for the Campus Cup on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
