The UPEI Panthers (1-1) scored three times in the second half to secure a 4-1 win over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (0-1).
Lauren Clark in the first half and Tyffanie Bordage, Caitlyn McCloskey and Rachel Green in the second managed to get the ball past Moncton keeper Chelsea Burnham. Aigles Bleues rookie Leila Karam gave her team a 1-0 advantage just five minutes into the game, but the Panthers took over from there.
UPEI goalkeeper Veronica Kozak faced only three shots in the first half and just one in the second, as UPEI's defence stifled their opponent. Burnham, meanwhile, was a lot busier at the other end as she faced 13 shots, including nine in the second half. The Panthers were awarded 11 corner kicks to the Aigles Bleues' three. Moncton will host St. Francis Xavier University X-Women on Saturday at 1 p.m., while UPEI welcomes Acadia at 5 p.m.
