(FREDERICTON, NB) It took the UNB REDS just 24 second to open the scoring in Saturday's 5-2 win over the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies.
Kade Landry (Gowanstown, ON) took a pass in the high slot and fired a wrist shot that beat Huskies goalie Jeremy Helvig (Kingston, ON).
Landry's early marker was the first of three UNB would score in the first and second periods before Saint Mary's could answer. He added an assist on a later goal and was named Subway Player of the Game.
"It feels great right now," said Landry. "We had a game, four weeks ago, down in their barn, that didn't go so well and left a sour taste in our mouths, so we were prepared for this game. We had this one marked on our calendars, so it feels good to come out on top and get a little revenge."
UNB suffered their last loss, one of just two so far, four weeks ago, at Saint Mary's.
The REDS remain at the top of the Atlantic University Sport standings with a 10-2-0-0 record and are riding a nine-game win streak.
Five minutes into the second, the Huskies were able to show some fight with a goal by Bradey Johnson (Lindsay, ON).
Minutes before, Cody Morgan (Gilford, ON) was able to take advantage of a powerplay, scoring his fourth goal of the season.
"Cole (MacKay) did a good job of creating a loose scrum. I gave it a whack and then pulled it out and just walked around and outwaited him", said Morgan.
When asked about the REDS ninth straight win, Morgan added that the stat isn't spoken about often.
"I think we're taking a pretty business-like approach to every game. This league is such a good league. Any given night, any team can beat any team, so we're taking that business-like approach into every game and battling like it's our last."
Huskies head coach Tyler Naugler liked how his team played in the second and third periods, but noted, "we've got to come out of the gate a lot quicker than we did. We can't spot them 20-25 shots in the first period."
"At the end, I really liked our pushback. To push back against a team with that firepower, I liked our second and third periods."
Isaac Nurse (Hamilton, ON), Jason Willms (Kitchener, ON), and Adam McCormick (Waterville, NB) also scored for UNB.
Jaxon Bellamy (Hampton, NB) was the other Huskie to find the back of the net.
Saint Mary's record now sits at 6-5-0-0. Their next game is Wednesday, at STFX, a make-up game from October 5th. Game time is 7:00pm.
The REDS will host the X-Men on Friday. Game time is 7:00pm.
