Basketball Axewomen improve to 5-0 with 89-74 win over Sea-Hawks

ST. JOHN'S, NL - The Acadia Axewomen beat the Memorial Sea-Hawks 89-74 in the first game of the weekend series.

It was a mediocre first half for the Hawks. They struggled to get buckets off their fast-break opportunities, as well as committing multiple unforced turnovers. Their fast-paced play was easily matched by Acadia, who kept up their own pace for most of the first frame. Acadia held the lead 47-37 at the end of the second.

Acadia opened up their lead in the third, pushing it to twenty at one point. They shot fifty percent from the field and from three-point territory. It was a different story for the Hawks. MUN shot a dismal 38% from the field and missing all their attempts from deep and from the line in the third quarter.

The final frame had a positive start with Hallie Nickerson (#23) getting six points off fast-break hustle and an assist. Unfortunately, this was the highlight of the fourth for the Hawks as the Axewomen weathered the storm and continued their dominant offensive streak. They shot 68% from the field in the final frame.

A bright spot for the Hawks was the effort from Hannah Green (#15) who posted a solid 12 points off the bench. Hallie Nickerson (#23) was the Hawks weapon tonight, posting 21 points in the loss. The Axewomen were the superior team on offense tonight, with four out of five starters posting double-digit points. Sarsha Cadle (#13) had an unbelievable game for Acadia, posting a triple-double off 14 points, 10 assists, and an incredible 21 rebounds.

Memorial will look to split the weekend series tomorrow at 12:00 PM. All Sea-Hawks home games are available on live stream at austv.ca
