Antigonish, NS – The StFX X-Women defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 4-1 in AUS action Sunday afternoon at the Antigonish Arena. Third year forward Emerson Elliott (Aurora, ON) scored the game winner late in the third period to give the X-Women the victory.

The teams played to a scoreless first period. Fabiana Petricca (Woodbridge, ON) was strong in the Tigers net as she came up with 15 saves as her squad was outshot by a 15-6 margin

The second period saw the X-Women get on the board quickly as Kristen McKinley (Rothesay, NB) netted a power play goal only 46 seconds into play. Elliott picked up the puck off the boards then found McKinley in the slot who made no mistake firing it past Petricca.

The Tigers tied it up midway through the period as Raeghan O'Leary (St. Andrew's, NB) brought the puck up ice off a Lauren Ellerton (Toronto, ON) pass and ripped a low shot past Jamie Johnson (Victoria, BC) in the X net.

The 1-1 tie held up for the remainder of the period as the X-Women held a slight 13-10 shot advantage.

Elliott broke the tie with her goal at 13:38 of the third period. She brought the puck into the Tigers zone, made a nice deek on a Tigers defender and lifted a shot high over the shoulder of Petricca. Lydia Schurman (Summerside, PE) and Lindsey Donovan (Mirimichi, NB) had helpers on the play.

Forward Tyra Meropoulis (Edson, AB) scored the insurance marker with three minutes left in the period as she converted a Kate Gotaas (Sherwood Park, AB) pass on a nice quick shot that went top shelf into the Tigers net.

Elliott scored her second of the afternoon on an empty netter late in the period to close out the 4-1 StFX victory.

The X-Women outshot the Tigers 39-22 in the game as Petricca was a force in the Tigers net and picked up the game's third star honours.

StFX defence Donovan was the second star while Elliott was first star and Subway player of the game.

The X-Women will next see action on Friday, October 11th when they travel to Fredericton to face-off against the St. Thomas Tommies. The Tigers will travel to Charlottetown to play UPEI, also on Friday.
