Coats adds two goals to 3-1 win over Moncton

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Fourth year striker Cooper Coats added two goals to his six goal season so far, in the Acadia's 3-1 win over visiting Moncton.

Coats, named the AUS Player of the Week last week, scored first on a free kick from an odd angle 12 yards out from the net. The kick was initially stopped by Moncton's keeper Andre LeBlanc but the power behind the kicked force the ball to the back of the net.

With a 1-0 lead after one half of play, Acadia's Tylor Connolly responded four minutes into the second half with a nice lead pass by Spencer Buck to Connolly who chipped it past a sprawling LeBlanc.

At the 61 minute mark, Coats scored his second of the afternoon on a great throw-in from Connolly to Coats who streaked past the Moncton defenders for the Axemen's last goal of the afternoon.

Moncton's Cherif Nehadji capitalized on a Axemen defensive error and was left alone with Acadia netminder Nic Jefferies to score the Aigles Bleus' only goal.

Spencer Buck, named the AUS Subway Player of the Game noted after the loss to Cape Breton that head coach Findlay MacRae insisted the team needed to play their game.

"Just go out and play our game. I think when I comes down to it, how we play dictates the game. If we come out full intensity with a desire to play, I think we can play against any team in this league," said Buck following the game.

The Axemen will have a week off and head to Halifax to take on Saint Mary's next Sunday at 3:15 p.m., while the Aigles Bleus host the winless Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday too.
