Huskies extend unbeaten streak to five games with 4-0 win over Aigles Bleus

HALIFAX, NS - The Saint Mary's Huskies extended their unbeaten streak to five straight games with a 4-0 win over l'Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Saturday evening in Halifax.
With high scoring forwards Allie Martin (Halifax, NS), and Virginia Boone (Halifax, NS), away at club nationals in Toronto, the Huskies depth stepped up offensively as four different players scored on the evening.
Moncton had a scoring opportunity on the very first play of the game, as forward Zoe Brockbank (Grand-Digue, NB) had a partial breakaway, but Huskies goalkeeper Grace Morrison (Halifax, NS) made a great diving save.
It was fourth year forward Julia Dorey (Cole Harbour, NS) who got the scoring started early, as she took a pass from midfielder Anelise Karakostas (Victoria, BC), cut in on the right wing and fired a shot from a tough angle that beat Aigles Bleus keeper Chelsea Burnham (Saint John, NB) to give the home team a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute.

Less than eight minutes later, Dorey made another offensive contribution, beating her defender on the right wing before playing a ball back to first year midfielder Julia Pasma (Georgetown, ON), who struck a first touch shot that trickled past Burnham to double the Huskies lead to 2-0 in the 15th minute.

Just over ten minutes later, the Huskies offence struck again, as midfielder Halle Williams (Hamilton, ON) chipped a pass ahead to forward Talia South (Barrie, ON), who fired a rocket of a shot past Burnham to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead in the 26th minute.

Saint Mary's thoroughly controlled the first half, outshooting the Aigles Bleus 10-1.
In the second half, the Huskies subbed in several first-year reserves, but continued to move the ball well offensively and dominate possession.
In the 82nd minute, it was one of those first years who sparked offence, as midfielder Victoria Gofton (Eastern Passage, NS) played a great cross to Anna Pancura (Halifax, NS), who fired a high, looping shot over Burnham to give the home team a 4-0 lead.

Huskies forward Julia Dorey was named Subway AUS Player of the Game with a goal and an assist. Saint Mary's goalkeeper Grace Morrison recorded three saves for her second clean sheet of the campaign.

Moncton's loss dropped their record to 0-6 on the season. L'Aigles Bleus will head to Charlottetown, P.E.I. take on the UPEI Panthers next Friday, Oct. 14, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
The win improved the Huskies to 4-1-2 on the campaign. The Huskies next game will be visiting their crosstown rivals the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday, Oct. 14 (kick-off at 5 p.m.), before returning to home field for homecoming weekend, as they host the Acadia Axewomen on Sunday, Oct. 16 (kick-off at 1 p.m.).
