CAPER women dominate their last home game of the season
Sydney, NS - The CBU CAPERS defeated the Dalhousie Tigers by a score of 83-46 in AUS women's basketball action at the Sullivan Fieldhouse on Saturday, February 15. CBU won both games of the 2-game series against DAL this weekend.
Today's game saw the CAPERS come out strong and go on a 13-point run before the Tigers were able to find the hoop with 3 minutes left in the first quarter. The CAPERS were able to net 10 more points before the end of the stanza, ahead 23-2.
DAL continued to find success with getting the ball in the hoop in the second quarter. CBU continued to capitalize on opportunities, heading to the locker room with a commanding 47-14 lead.
The Tigers began to find their groove in the third quarter with improved scoring. The CAPERS didn't waiver and kept the gap about the same, finishing the quarter with a score of 65-31.
The final quarter saw similar action with both teams adding points to their total, but the margin remaining the same. The CAPERS stole the show in their final home game of the season with an 83-46 victory over the Tigers.
Melina Collins led the charge for DAL with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Simona Matic added 9 points and 5 rebounds while Samantha Manieri chipped in with 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Kiyara Letlow added another double-double to the list with 19 points and 18 rebounds. Hannah Smith netted 14 points and added 8 rebounds while Chermensa Van la Parra contributed 12 points and 5 assists.
The CAPERS honoured 4 of their senior students after the game this evening: Fifth year Hailey MacLeod (Marion Bridge, NS), fourth-year Chermensa Van la Parra (Rotterdam, Netherlands), fourth-year Hanna Smith (Bedford, NS), and fourth-year Kiyara Letlow (Toronto, ON).
Dalhousie will finish their season on Friday, February 21with a game at Saint Mary's at 6pm.
The CAPERS will finish their season with a game at UPEI on Saturday, February 22 at 6pm.
