Kaitlyn Mora scored the overtime winner to lead the Gryphon women's hockey team over the previously undefeated Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
The CIS. No.5 ranked Gryphons bounced back twice from a one-goal deficit to defeat the No. 2 ranked Hawks.
Mora of Guelph, Ont. scored the overtime winner for the Gryphons with her third goal of the season, 1:24 into the extra frame. Assists were credited to
Jacalyn Sollis (West Vancouver, BC) and Tamara Bell (Guelph, Ont.).
A scoreless first period saw both teams with eight shots on net.
The second period saw Laurier come out strong and get on the board early as Paula Lagamba netted the games first two minutes into the period.
Gryphon rookie
Victoria Head (Kanata, Ont.) took advantage of a Laurier tripping penalty to score her fourth of the season at the 6:47minute mark in the period. Laurier responded two minutes later from a marker by Devon Skeats. In the period Laurier outshot Guelph 12-8.
OUA leading scorer
Erin Small (Pickering, Ont.) tallied her 8
th of the season with just four minutes remaining to send the game to overtime.
In extra time, Guelph jumped ahead early as Mora netted the winning goal 1:24 minutes into overtime.
Gryphon rookie goal
Stephanie Nehring (Oshawa, Ont.) made 28 saves and won her sixth in as many starts while Erica Thunder made 26 saves.
