Master Leads Reds In Exhibition Win

(ANTIGONISH, NS) The St FX X-Men and UNB Reds played an entertaining pre-season game Friday, in Antigonish, with the Reds emerging as 96-92 winners, in overtime.

Freshman Marcus Masters (Kitchener, ON) scored 34 points to lead the Reds, while veteran Chris Spurrell (Quispamsis, NB) netted 17 and dished out five assists.

The X-Men got out to early leads in the game, going up 23-22 after the first quarter and 43-39 at halftime.

The visiting Reds turned the game around in the third quarter, outscoring the X-Men 24-17 to take a 63-60 advantage after 30 minutes.

After back and forth action throughout the fourth quarter, the teams were deadlocked 84-84 and needed the extra time to settle the game.

The X-Men had a big night from freshman guard Dondre Reddick (Antigonish, NS), who scored 28 points off the bench, along with eight rebounds.

Azaro Roker (Nassua, Bahamas) had a double-double night with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

For the Reds, Masters game-high 34 points featured five for seven from three-point range. Matur Maluach (Sydney, AUS) was the top rebounder with eight. He also scored 16 points in the win.

The Reds will be back in exhibition action on Thursday, October 24th when they travel to Sackville for a game against Mount Allison.

The X-Men will be competing in their own tournament, October 25th and 26th.
