Tigers run out of gas versus STFX

Antigonish, NS – The STFX X-Women picked up a 70-55 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday evening on Coach K Court at the Saputo Centre.

The X-Women were led by Subway player of the game Kimberly Kingsbury who scored a game-high 21 points. She had a big double-double game, adding 19 rebounds and also chipped in with five assists.

Briar MacDonald also had a double-double night for X with 15 points and 17 rebounds. She was 3 for 6 from three-point range.

Kira Atherley added 14 off the STFX bench.

For the Tigers Emma Ward (Muncton, NB) was the player of the game, leading her squad with 18 points on the night. Katie Crombeen (Calgary, AB) scored 10 and had six rebounds.

The X-Women got out to a 10-8 lead after the first quarter but were outscored 16-6 by the Tigers in the second stanza as they turned the game around to take a 24-16 lead into the dressing room at halftime. The Tigers were strong on the boards in the second quarter with Crombeen, Hannah Chadwick (Toronto, ON), and Lia Kentzler (Gottingen, Germany) snagging three rebound each. 

STFX played a strong third, outscoring the Tigers 26-15 and were up by three points, 42-39 after the third quarter. The Tigers shooting from the free throw line carried them through the third quarter with the team making 13 of their 14 attempts from the line. 

The home team then outpaced the Tigers 28-16 in the final quarter to take home the 70-55 win, their second one of the season. The Tigers fall to 0-8, still in search of their first win.

Tonight's game was worth four points in the AUS standings.

Both squads will be back in action on Saturday, November 27th. The Tigers will host the Acadia Axewomen while the X-Women will host UPEI. Tip-off for both games is 6:00 pm.
