WOLFVILLE,N.S. - Grace Longley (Bedford, N.S.) scored the only goal in the Acadia Axewomens' Friday night victory over the Dalhousie Tigers.   

Most of the first half was spent in the middle of the field, as neither team could break through the other's defense. There were a few easy saves made on both sides by starting goaltenders Sarah Charnock (Newmarket, Ont.) for Acadia and Karina Koepke (Kiel, Germany) for the Tigers.  

Jayden Boudreau (Halifax, N.S.) had a great chance to score during one of Acadia's corner kicks, but her header was a tad too high.   

Riley Donovan (Toronto, Ont.) had a strong shot on net around the 39th minute which was saved by Charnock, keeping the game at 0-0.  

Acadia's Jacqueline Stevens (Kentville, N.S.) came off the field late in the first half and was attended to by the team's medical staff. She was seen icing her leg during half time but was able to bear her weight. By the end of the break she was warming up to go back out.  

The score at halftime was 0-0.  

Eleven minutes into the second half, Acadia scored off one of their corner kicks. Meghan Johnston's (Dartmouth, N.S.) shot from the corner slipped through the hands of Koepke and rookie Grace Longley (Bedford, N.S.) was there to pick up her first goal of the season.  

After the game's first goal, the pace went back to that of the first. Only a few more shots were attempted and none of them went in.  

The final score of Friday afternoon's game read 1-0 for the Axewomen.  

Mya Harnish (Halifax, N.S.) played a solid game on defence for the Axewomen. The Tigers only had two shots on net and Harnish's performance had a lot to do with their shutout. Harnish was named Acadia's Subway Player of the Game.  

"Our coach encouraged us at halftime to keep our intensity up and it turned into a goal for us. We go into every game expecting tough competition, but we were able to come out with the win," said Harnish after the game.   

The Dalhousie Tigers played a strong game against the Axewomen, but were simply unable to get on the scoreboard. Breagh Bates (Timberlea, N.S.) kept the Tigers in the game for the whole 90 minutes by keeping Axewomen strikers to the outside. Her defensive performance earned her a Subway Player of the Game award.   

Acadia plays their second home game of the weekend this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against CBU.  

The Tigers continue their road trip with a game at Saint Mary's on Sunday.
